Rescuers helped two children, a man and a woman, get out from under the rubble of a destroyed building in the city of Gaziantep. The Turkish TV channel TRT Haber on the evening of February 6 showed how people were taken out of a small gap under the wall of the building.
First, a girl and a boy got out of the gap between the debris and the wall of the destroyed building, less than half a meter high, followed by a man, followed by a woman.
To date, the number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey has reached 1,762 people, 12,068 people were injured, the country’s authorities said. However, a source from Izvestia previously noted that the death toll had already exceeded 2,000.
On the night of February 6, seismologists recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 near the Turkish city of Gaziantep, located near the Syrian border. Several dozen aftershocks followed. In the afternoon there was another earthquake of magnitude 7.6. Syrian provinces were also affected by this natural disaster.
In Syria, 593 people became victims of the tragedy, more than 1.4 thousand people were injured.
In the evening of this day, the planes of the Russian Emergencies Ministry flew to Turkey and Syria, which suffered from the earthquake. The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, Alexander Kurenkov, specified: Russian rescuers were sent on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Employees of the Centrospas airmobile detachment and the Leader center will fly to the zones of devastating earthquakes on four planes.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared national mourning until February 12 inclusive.
