The Abu Dhabi Powerboat Team won the Formula 2 World Championship for the fifth time in its history, after the captain of the “Abu Dhabi 1” boat, Rashid Al Qamzi, won first place in the main race in the final round held on the Douro River in the city of Vila Velha in Portugal, the day before yesterday, with the participation of 17 boats.
Al Qamzi gave a great performance during the main race in the final round of the championship, through which he defended the title he won in the 2023 championship, as he started from second place and led the race from the first round until the end over 42 laps, recording a time of 38:18 minutes, adding to his record the fifth title of this championship, which is the second in a row, to take the record for the number of wins.
Al Qamzi raised his score to 81 points with the final round, while the captain of the boat “Abu Dhabi 36”, Mansour Al Mansouri, obtained third place with 51 points, despite his exit from the main race due to a malfunction in his boat, while second place went to the Lithuanian boat Edregas Ryabko with 67 points, after coming in third in the main race.
For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Marine Sports Federation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, praised the distinguished performance of the Abu Dhabi team during the championship, the fruitful efforts made by the team during all rounds of the championship, and the high spirit that enabled Rashid Al Qamzi to compete strongly for the title and seize the lead in the penultimate round, crowning this by winning the title of the closing round and announcing his victory in the championship title with merit and worthiness, and Mansour Al Mansouri obtaining third place.
