The German army faced difficulties in supplying its own weapons stocks due to military assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country, Annalena Burbock, on the air of the ZDF TV channel on August 24.
“Unfortunately, the situation is such that we have an absolute shortage of our own reserves,” she said.
According to her, Ukraine insists on increasing supplies, but Germany should think about its needs. In Germany, due to problems with weapons, the military industry had to start production specifically for Ukraine, the TV channel reports the words of the diplomat.
Burbock clarified that Germany’s “indecisiveness” regarding the supply of weapons to the Ukrainian side and Berlin’s attempts to establish the operation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline provoked antipathy from Germany’s partner countries in Eastern Europe and the Baltic states, because of which “a lot of china was broken.”
“Now we need extra, fast, extra supplies [вооружений Украине] autumn,” the minister commented.
She added that soon the German side will transfer the IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems to the Kyiv regime.
On August 21, the German authorities published a list of weapons that have already been or will be delivered to Ukraine. It included 30 anti-aircraft self-propelled guns (ZSU) Gepard, air defense IRIS-T, MLRS MARS and other weapons.
Moscow has repeatedly urged Western countries to stop pumping weapons into Kyiv. As Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted, by supplying weapons to Ukraine, the North Atlantic Alliance is entering into a proxy war with Russia. He noted that Western weapons supplied to Kyiv would be a legitimate target for the Russian military involved in the special operation.
Western countries began to arm Ukraine more actively against the backdrop of a special operation carried out by Russia to protect Donbass. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation included the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the backdrop of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
