Sports Desk. Champions Trophy 2025 is to be hosted by Pakistan. The tournament will start from 19th February. However, the Indian team will play its matches in UAE. Afghanistan team will also play in this tournament. The team finishing in the top-8 in the World Cup 2023 has got the ticket for the Champions Trophy.
With 4 wins in 9 matches, Afghanistan team had secured sixth position in the table. He had defeated teams like England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has been appointed the mentor of the Afghanistan cricket team for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed this on Wednesday.
Younis had previously been the batting coach of Afghanistan in 2022. 47 year old Younis Khan is counted among the greatest batsmen of Pakistan cricket. He has also been the batting coach of Pakistan team. In recent times, Afghanistan has made former players of the same country where ICC tournaments take place as mentors.
Ajay Jadeja was the mentor of the team in the World Cup 2023 held in India. The team showed amazing performance in the tournament. The team had included West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo in the 2024 T20 World Cup. There his experience was beneficial and the team reached the semi-finals. Now Younis Khan has joined the team for the tournament to be held in Pakistan. Afghanistan team will start its campaign against South Africa in the Champions Trophy 2025. This match will take place on 21st February.
