Former Union Minister and founding president of JDU Sharad Yadav passed away. He is 75 years old. He has been receiving treatment for his illness for some time. He passed away on Thursday (January 12) night after his health deteriorated. This was informed by his daughter Subhashini Sharad Yadav through Facebook. She posted ‘Papa Nahi Rahe: (Dad is no more)’. Added crying emoji. Sharad Yadav played a key role in Bihar as well as national politics. He is recognized as the founding president of the current ruling party JDU in Bihar.

On behalf of JDU, Sharad Yadav was elected 7 times as a member of Lok Sabha and 3 times as a member of Rajya Sabha. He also served as Union Minister. After CM Nitish Kumar left the Grand Alliance and joined hands with BJP in 2018, Sharad Yadav came out of JDU after disagreeing with him. In 2018 he formed a new party named ‘Lok Tantrik Janata Dal’. Two years later the party was merged with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) party. He announced that ‘this is the first step towards the unity of the opposition’.

Tejashwi Yadav tweeted expressing deep grief over Sharad Yadav’s death. With the demise of Sharad Yadav, an era in Bihar politics seems to have ended.
