France will deliver the first AMX10-RC armored vehicles to Ukraine in February. This was stated by French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu on Wednesday, January 25, on the air of France 5 TV channel.
“We want to act as quickly as possible. I expect that the first deliveries will be made in early February,” said Lecornu.
He added that France and for security reasons does not name the specific number of armored vehicles sent to Kyiv.
“We are approaching this with caution. The Russians have said they plan to strike at supply chains and places where Western military aid can pass through, so we are cautious about the timing and quantity of deliveries, ”said the French defense minister.
In early January, French President Emmanuel Macron, during a conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, promised to supply Kyiv with AMX-10 RC wheeled tanks. He noted that this will be the first time that Western-made armored vehicles will be supplied in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the same month, the Politico newspaper reported that the French authorities are considering the possibility of transferring their Leclerc tanks to the Ukrainian side, but no decision has yet been made on this issue.
On December 12, 2022, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal called for the transfer of French Leclerc tanks to Ukraine.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of the Russian special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022.
