New Delhi: "Freebies are not an issue. The problem is how the government will provide them." Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said. The minister made this comment at the annual meeting of RSS official magazine Panjajanya held in Delhi.
In her speech, Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "Recently there has been a lot of discussion about freebies. Attempts are being made to define what is free. The issue is not what is free. The real issue is whether or not you can afford that freebie. If someone promises freebies, the budget should state how they are going to pay for it. Many people make promises of freebies during election time. Then after coming to power they look at the state finances and understand that it is not possible.
