In the French city of Pau, about 450 farmers on tractors on Thursday, April 28, organized demonstrations against rising prices. They dumped a pile of manure from a truck near a government building. This was reported by Sudouest.fr.
It is noted that the farmers arrived in the city center from the department of the Pyrenees-Atlantique. The protest was organized by the FDSEA 64 trade union.
The main demands of the demonstrators were to reduce the cost of animal feed and electricity, which directly affect farms.
According to the demonstrators, the sustainability plan launched by the government to support farms does not cover Pyrenees-Atlantique farms because it does not meet its criteria.
During the protest, farmers dumped manure in front of the government building. Eyewitnesses posted footage from the scene online. Several hundred people gathered outside the local government building.
Earlier, on April 27, French President Emmanuel Macron was pelted with tomatoes during a trip to the municipality of Cergy in the Île-de-France region. This happened after the second and final round of presidential elections took place in France on April 24. According to the results of calculations of 100% of the ballots, Macron scored 58.54%.
After the announcement of the results, demonstrations began in the country. In Lyon, 200 to 300 people took to the streets.
On April 23, it was reported that against the backdrop of anti-Russian sanctions, the cost of air tickets in France had skyrocketed. Over the year, prices for flights from France abroad increased by an average of 6.1%, and for flights to overseas territories of the country – by 13.5%. Air France cites rising jet fuel prices as the reason. As a result, today the ticket price is about €1000 instead of €500.
On April 9, supporters of the “yellow vests” have already staged protests in the French capital. At them, the protesters opposed Macron’s policies, which led to an increase in prices for most goods and services.
Economic problems continue to grow in France against the backdrop of anti-Russian sanctions adopted by Western countries in connection with the special operation carried out by Russia to protect Donbass. Prices for fuel, utilities, and food are rising sharply. The situation is taking such a critical turn that, against the backdrop of a worsening food crisis, Emmanuel Macron announced the possible introduction of food checks to support poor French people.
