Following the accident, the tanker leaked fuel and caught fire in the area. The civil defense authorities extinguished the fire, stopped the leak in the tanker and carried out rescue operations. Immediately after the accident, video footage of the tanker bursting into flames is circulating on social media.
Meanwhile, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced on Wednesday that two natural gas reserves had been discovered in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. Saudi Aramco has discovered two unconventional natural gas fields in the Eastern Province. One of the unconventional natural gas fields ‘Awtad’ was discovered southwest of Gawar field, 142 km southwest of Hufoof city. Another unconventional natural gas field called ‘Al Dahna’ has been discovered 230 km southwest of Dhahran city, he said.
The Saudi Press Agency quoted the Minister of Energy as saying that the significance of these discoveries lies in the fact that these two natural gas reserves will help strengthen the country’s natural gas reserves. Prince Abdul Aziz said that this would support the country’s energy strategies and help achieve the goal of the Liquid Fuel Displacement Project.

Awtad well 108001 is flowing natural gas at a rate of 10 million standard cubic feet per day. The minister said that 740 barrels of condensate per day will be obtained from here. Awtad well 100921 will yield 16.9 million standard cubic feet of natural gas and condensate at a rate of 165 barrels per day, he said.
