Chennai: The 6th Gallo India Youth Games are being held in 4 districts of Tamil Nadu namely Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy and Madurai. The women’s volleyball tournament will be held from 24th (today) to 28th at Chennai Nehru Indoor Stadium. The Tamil Nadu women’s volleyball team has shown great potential in the 5K India Youth Games held so far.
Tamil Nadu has won one gold and one silver medal and finished 4th twice. Finished the streak only once with a 6th place finish. Tamilnadu volleyball players are very determined to win the gold medal with home soil advantage this time. B. Senthur Pandian, a special training manager with 38 years of experience, is harnessing the potential of Tamil Nadu women players. He points out the mistakes made by the players in every service, attack, block and defense and makes them sharp.
Out of the 14 players in the team, 8 are from the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority hostel. Among them, Anandi Kalo, who is active in the team, has participated in the India Youth Games 4 times and won 2 medals. This time he is waiting for the moment to hold the gold medal in his home soil.
Anandi says, “I have participated in 14 national sports competitions in different age groups. I have played for the Indian team in the beach volleyball tournament held in France in 2022.
I belong to a farming family. Father Govt and mother Meenakshi are doing agricultural work. Currently studying in 2nd year of college. I am going to play in the Gallo India Youth Games for the 4th time.
Grandfather and uncle are volleyball players. I got into the game out of that curiosity. My role in the team is Universal. I have participated in Gallo India Games 4 times. I have won one gold and 2 silver medals in this. We are confident that this time we will win the gold medal in our own land.
