The arrest was based on a complaint filed by a Kuwaiti citizen along with a video clip of a domestic worker intentionally adding garbage to food. The newspaper reported that the employee confessed to the crime during police interrogation. The complainant, a Kuwaiti national, told investigators that he and his wife had noticed a change in the taste of the food prepared by the housekeeper. Due to this, after the observation, the Filipino woman found that the reason for the change in taste was the addition of garbage to the food. Suspicious of the girl’s behavior, the sponsor installed a camera in the kitchen. The incident that shocked the family was realized from the footage from it.

Then the young man lodged a complaint with the police along with the video clip. Security sources in Kuwait said that the arrested woman was ordered to be deported within two days. Brigadier Ziad Al Khatib, Director of Security in Hawalli Governorate, issued the order to deport the young woman. Police said the maid will be sent back to the Philippines soon.
Al Anba newspaper pointed out that this is not the first time that such an incident has been reported in Kuwait. In March last year, a similar mishap happened to an Indian maid working for a family in Kuwait. They were arrested for mixing liquid waste in food. In this incident too, the maid mixed contaminated water in the food prepared for the sponsor, a Kuwaiti national. Here again the difference in taste in the food prompted the young man to set up a camera in the kitchen and discover the crime. The maid had stated before the police that she had done this as revenge against the family for not providing her proper accommodation.

It is noteworthy that the new incident comes in the context of the controversial incident last month in which a Filipino maid was raped by a teenager at her sponsor’s house and then killed to keep the incident from going public. The Philippine government has suspended the recruitment of domestic workers to Kuwait until job security for Filipinos in Kuwait is strengthened.
