In Georgia, law enforcement officers detained the robber Badri Esebua, who in October 2020 committed a robbery attack on the branch of the Bank of Georgia in the city of Zugdidi, taking people hostage there. This was reported on February 8 by Rustavi 2 TV channel.
The local press is actively reporting on the arrest of the attacker, since before that it was believed that he managed to successfully escape. At the same time, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have not yet given official comments.
Esebua committed the crime on October 21, 2020. He broke into the building of the Bank of Georgia and took hostage 43 people – visitors and employees of the financial institution. He later released them, but managed to escape, taking $500,000 with him.
The identity of the perpetrator was identified a few days after the robbery. Criminal cases were opened under the articles “robbery”, “Illegal acquisition, storage and carrying of firearms” and “hostage-taking”.
On December 14, it was reported that in the center of Tbilisi on Beijing Street, an unknown person robbed a branch of the Bank of Georgia. The masked man broke into the bank, stole the money and fled. The robber was armed. In connection with the incident, law enforcement officers were alerted, investigative actions were launched.
