The German federal state of Hesse opposed the sale of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport to NR Holding, which is associated with Russian businessman Viktor Kharitonin. This is reported by Der Spiegel on February 6th.
“We are asking the federal government, which accompanies the process in accordance with the foreign trade law, to explore all possible options in order to prevent this sale,” the magazine said in a statement from the Hessen Ministry of Finance.
The acquisition of the bankrupt airport by a Russian investor became known on February 4. According to journalists, the transaction amount is €20 million. The Frankfurt-Hahn air harbor is located in Germany between Frankfurt am Main and Luxembourg. The airport is located about 120 km from both points.
The object was created on the basis of the former American military airfield. Civil aircraft flights began to operate almost 30 years ago. The airport’s revenue began to fall in 2007. In 2021, the airport’s owners filed for bankruptcy. Businessmen may be interested in the object because of the permission for night flights.
On January 29, it became known that the British air carrier Flybe canceled all flights and stopped selling tickets due to bankruptcy. It is reported that the carrier has been placed under external management.
