Gerrard: The win over Brighton brought me back to life

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard revealed that victories such as the 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday bring him back to the brilliance and celebration he lived when he was a player.

Thanks to two goals near the end, signed by Oli Watkins and Tyrone Mings, Villa won over its guest Brighton and stopped its successive losing streak in the league, which lasted over five games and caused him to dispense with the services of his former coach Dean Smith and use Gerrard as his replacement on November 11.

Gerrard, the former England captain, played more than 700 games for Liverpool between 1998 and 2015, and during this period won nine titles with the club.

Gerrard said: “These goals honestly bring me back to the atmosphere of brilliance and celebration that I lived in when I was a player and is the reason why I wanted to continue with the game.”

Gerrard added: “At times we were nervous against Brighton but I think we finished the game very strong. We have a lot of aspects that we can build on. Our strength will increase with time and we will evolve for the better.

Aston Villa occupies 15th place among the 20 Premier League teams with 13 points from 12 matches, and will meet Crystal Palace away on Saturday.
