The boat “Ghazi 96”, owned by Sheikh Saeed bin Suroor Al Sharqi, and captained by Nokhatha Ahmed Saeed Al Rumaithi, was crowned champion of the “local” round in the Dubai Local Rowing Boat Race (first round of the Dubai Championship), organized by the Dubai International Marine Club.
The boat “Balarab 44” affiliated with the Omani Marine Sports Committee, captained by Nokhatha Humaid Salem Al Bahri, won first place in the open race, which is allocated to teams from government departments, private institutions, and boats of participants from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
More than 400 sailors on board 41 boats participated in the race, which was held the day before yesterday, on the waters of the Dubai Water Canal, divided into two rounds, the first “local” with the participation of 23 boats, and the second “open” with the participation of 18 boats.
All boats raced for a distance of 2.3 km from the front of the Business Bay facade, to the entrance to Dubai Creek near the Dubai Creek Wildlife Sanctuary.
The boat “Ghazi 96”, which is participating for the first time in the Dubai Championship, succeeded in winning the lead in the local race, ahead of the boat “Al-Asifa 36”, which held the title last season, owned by Hamdan Saeed Jaber and captained by Nokhatha Badr Abdul Hakim Mohammed Thani, who finished second, while third place went. To the boat “Min Jumeirah 4”, owned by Butti Musabeh Al-Ghashish Al-Marri and captained by Nokhatha Tariq Al-Mansouri.
The boat “Bel Arab 44” excelled in the open race, ahead of the two boats (F3) 89, owned by Hamdan Saeed Jaber and captained by Noukhadha Badr Abdul Hakim Muhammad Thani, who came second, and “Barq 63” owned by Sheikh Saif bin Muhammad bin Butti Al Hamid and captained by Noukhada Ali Sanad. Al Hammadi, who came in third place.
The race was followed by a member of the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Sports Club, Mohammed Al Falahi, and the Director of Sports Affairs at the club, the race supervisor, Mohammed Al Marri, crowned the first three place holders in the local and open halves.
It is worth noting that the Dubai Local Rowing Boat Championship 30 feet will continue its activities next Saturday, with the holding of the second and final round race, based on the results of which the boats that will compete in the Al Maktoum Cup competitions in its 28th edition will be selected.
