National Day of ActionThe proceeds from Giro555 for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria have risen to more than 28.6 million euros, action chairman Michiel Servaes reported on Wednesday at 5:55 am at the kick-off of the national day of action. It is intended to collect money for emergency aid such as shelter, clothing, medical care and food for those affected.
Radio stations NPO FunX and NPO 3FM kicked off with a joint morning show. Throughout the day, radio, television and social media reports on the fundraising campaign. A total of 28,626,928.80 euros has so far been received by Giro555. The cooperating aid organizations opened the giro number last Tuesday. The last reported standings were on Monday, when the counter stood at almost 25 million euros.
Aid organizations hope that we will donate en masse during the national day of action. More than 170 well-known Dutch people, representatives from the Turkish and Syrian communities and religious leaders help in the call panel or on social media. For example, celebrities such as Thomas Erdbrink, Nicolette van Dam and Edson da Graça are on the call panel in Sound & Vision in Hilversum on Wednesday. Daphne Bunskoek, Art Rooijakkers and Yeliz Çiçek will also take place in the action center, as will mayors Jan van Zanen and Ahmed Aboutaleb. During the day, the standings of donations will be published (at 1.30 pm and 7.10 pm) with the provisional final result at 10.15 pm.
Wednesday night there is a TV show Help earthquake victims on NPO 1, a collaboration between NPO, RTL and Talpa, after which the provisional final score becomes clear. The live broadcast, which will be broadcast from 8.30 pm and in which Frank Boeijen and Karsu will perform, among others, will be presented by Chantal Janzen. She shows reports by Johnny de Mol and interacts with Hila Noorzai, Wendy van Dijk and Herman van der Zandt who report in Sound and Vision. The last fifteen minutes will also be shown on RTL 4 and SBS.
Artists perform in the TV show and Eva Jinek and Jeroen Pauw receive guests at the table in the studio. There is also a link with the action center in the Hilversum Sound and Vision museum, where celebrities such as Sander Hoogendoorn, Frank van der Lende and Chazia Mourali take calls from callers who want to donate to Giro555.
Last Monday, the border area of Syria and Turkey was hit by strong earthquakes. Tens of thousands of fatalities have now been counted. Hundreds of thousands of people are in urgent need of help. The aid organizations behind Giro555 are present in the area themselves or through local partners. They provide immediate emergency assistance, such as medical care, food and shelter.
