New Delhi. Global connected car sales are set to grow by 12 per cent (year-on-year) in 2022, with connected cars accounting for more than 50 per cent of total car sales. This information has been given in a new report. According to Counterpoint Research, Volkswagen Group led the way in sales of connected cars, followed by Toyota Group.
The US remained the strongest market for connected cars, followed by China and Europe. These three markets will account for about 80 percent of total connected car sales globally in 2022.
Japan saw the largest growth in connected car penetration, despite having a small share of connected car sales.
Research analyst Abhilash Gupta said, “Non-connected car shipments continue to decline as consumers focus on in-car connectivity. The top five automotive groups accounted for nearly half of the connected cars sold in 2022. Tesla enters the top 10 for the first time.”
Furthermore, the report states that 4G cars will capture more than 95 percent of connected car sales in 2022.
Tesla, driven by Elon Musk, broke into the top 10 connected car sales rankings for the first time.
Senior analyst Soumen Mandal said, “Currently 4G dominates the connected car market with about 95 per cent share, but as the automotive market moves towards electrification, software-defined vehicles and autonomy, seamless and seamless connectivity through 5G is expected.” The need for faster in-vehicle connectivity will be met.”
“More than 90 percent of connected cars sold by 2030 will have embedded 5G connectivity. Sales of connected cars are expected to grow at a CAGR of 13 percent between 2022 and 2030,” he added.
