Gold hunting is going on on Masaipeta hill in Sripotti Sriramulu district zone. The Central Government has initially identified the area as rich in gold, copper and white quartz (white stone) mineral deposits. However, mapping and drilling were carried out under the auspices of the Union Ministry of Mines to ascertain the extent of these mineral deposits. Against this backdrop, the Geological Survey of India conducted drilling at 500 to 1,000 feet in five locations on the hill and collected 46 specimens. These mineral samples were handed over to the lab for testing. The central government has identified gold, copper and white quartz deposits in more than 2,000 hectares of land in the Masaipeta hills. Currently steps are being taken to find out the extent to which these minerals are present. As part of this, a team of officers from Hyderabad on Monday reached the drilling site with a Geological Survey of India vehicle and inspected it. CCTV cameras are being sent underground to collect the drilling area at a depth of 150 meters. However, locals are hopeful that the Udayagiri plateau will develop if these mineral deposits come to light.
