The female mammoth has been identified as the baby’s body. According to the Yukon government, the baby girl was nicknamed “Nan Cho Ga” in the Han language by Trondak Hwitch. In the Han language spoken in the area it means big baby animal. While operating the bulldozer in the mine, the workers noticed that the machine was blocking something in the mud. The mammoth was found during a subsequent inspection.

It is thought to have been frozen in winter 30,000 years ago. According to experts, this mammoth may have lived in the Yukon with wild horses and cave lions when the woolly mammoth was alive.
