Good news for train passengers; Travel in AC 3-tier economy at low cost

Indian Railways is at the forefront of introducing anything new for passengers. In such a way, the Railways has introduced a new change for the passengers. Indian Railways has issued an order on Wednesday reducing the ticket price for passengers traveling in AC 3 tier economy class. The ticket price of 3 tier economy class was made equal to AC 3 tier ticket in November last year. The reason is said to be the cost of linen which was not provided in economy air condition at that time. But don’t doubt, railways will continue to provide linen to passengers even if the price is restored.
Linen provided by Railways includes pillows, blankets, sheets and towels in a sealed cover. Another thing, the order also said that passengers who have already booked their tickets online and over the counter will be refunded the excess amount charged.

Railways had introduced 3E class in September 2021 and announced that the fares of these new coaches will be 6-8% lower than the regular AC 3 tier coaches. 3E Coaches was adjudged as the “Best and Cheapest AC Travel Service” in the world. Before the November 2022 order, people could book AC 3 economy tickets under a special category called “3E” on special trains where the railways offered these seats.

AC 3 tier economy coaches with modern amenities
AC 3 tier economy class coaches have a seating capacity of 72-83. These coaches offer individual AC vents, individual reading lamps and USB charging points for each berth. A new and improved ladder is also provided for passengers to access the middle and upper berths. There is also more headroom in the middle and upper berths.

AC3 coach has 6 berth and 2 side berth in each compartment. Whereas, AC3 Economy has 3 side berths, making a total of 9 berths per compartment. There is also an additional berth between side upper and side lower. Generally AC3 Economy fares are around 8 percent cheaper than AC3 Coach.

AC3 economy coaches have better facilities for passengers than regular AC3 coaches. These coaches feature an improved modular design of seats and berths. These coaches also have better fire safety measures and CCTV cameras. AC 3 tier economy class has earned more than Rs 200 crores since its first year of introduction by Indian Railways.
