New Delhi . Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on Saturday that the company will award a record $12 million in bug bounties to more than 700 researchers in 2022. It also includes the biggest prize in the history of the bug bounty program. The Android Vulnerability Reward Program (VRP) had a record-breaking year in 2022 with $4.8 million in rewards and the highest reported payout in Google VRP history of $605,000.
“Having submitted an impressive 200-plus vulnerabilities to Android VRP, BugsMirror’s Aman Pandey continues to be one of the top researchers in our program,” said Sarah Jacobs of the Vulnerability Rewards team at Google.
Since submitting his first report in 2019, Pandey has reported over 500 vulnerabilities in the program.
The invite-only Android Chipset Security Rewards Program (ACSRP) awarded 486,000 in 2022 and received over 700 valid security reports.
Chrome VRP had another unique year, receiving 470 valid and unique security bug reports, resulting in a total of $4 million in VRP rewards.
In August 2022, the company launched Open Source Software (OSS) VRP to address vulnerabilities in Google’s open source projects.
Since then, more than 100 bug hunters have participated in the program and have been rewarded with more than $110,000, according to the company.
“We have awarded more than $250,000 in grants to more than 170 security researchers.”
