When I was seven, I moved to a hostel in Nainital, Uttarakhand. I could not always see my parents because they were in Nepal. So I spent most of my time at my grandmother’s house. My grandmother used to tell me stories and take me for walks. We were also involved in a Golgappa eating contest in the evenings. They had never informed me of the lack of being with their parents. When I went to study at the dental school, I visited my grandparents every week. My grandfather taught me to ride a scooter. But after getting married in 2016 and moving to Canada, I could not come to see them. I do not forget to call and share news at least once a week. When I broke the news that they were grandparents, they jumped for joy. I always send pictures and videos of Isna.
But I hated seeing them and their granddaughter through a screen. Due to pandemic, my visit to India was delayed!
Then last year my grandfather was hospitalized. The doctors had no hope. That was the moment I was devastated. At that time, Isna was only 2 months old. Later, her grandfather recovered, and Isna’s travel restrictions were lifted by the time she was 1 year old. So, I decided to come to India. Also read: Wedding at the age of 95; The long-awaited soul mate is now a life partner; A viral wedding
I did not tell my grandparents; I wanted it to be a surprise. What a miracle it was! They could not believe it! Grandpa got up and danced when he saw us! I see them 4 years later, but I laughed when I saw Grandpa dance.
I spent two days with them. Grandma told Isna everything about my childhood. I was so happy to see them together. But it did bring a lot of trouble for those who came back. I hugged Isna and cried when I heard her grandfather tell me that when you grow up he will take you to Golgap too.
Going back to Canada was very painful. I wanted to spend a few days with them. Anyway, Isna was able to feel their love too. I know that love will always be with her.
