The UK authorities have decided to increase the duty on platinum and palladium from Russia by 35%. This became known on Sunday, May 8.
“The new import duties will affect £1.4 billion worth of goods. We are talking, in particular, about palladium and platinum,” the British government said in a statement.
The introduction of restrictive measures, as specified in the report, was made in the context of a special military operation that Russia is conducting in the Donbas.
Earlier, on April 21, London imposed a ban on the import of silver, caviar, wood products, and “luxury goods” from Russia. On the 25th, the British government blocked the export of certain products and technologies to the country. On May 4, the British side imposed a ban on the provision of services to the Russian Federation in the field of management. Other restrictive measures of London affected not only individual Russians, but also the national media. In particular, in connection with the latest measures, Moscow protested to the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Russia, Deborah Bronnert.
On April 27, Moscow imposed personal sanctions on 287 deputies of the House of Commons of the British Parliament, who were denied entry into the country. Then the Russian side stressed that restrictive measures were taken “on the basis of reciprocity” in response to London’s personal sanctions.
Earlier, on April 24, The Telegraph estimated the losses of the British side as a result of anti-Russian sanctions at $7.96 billion over the next nine years. In particular, the biggest damage will be in the supply of cars brands Bentley and Aston Martin, as well as companies involved in the development of software and computer equipment.
Western countries began to impose new sanctions in response to Russia’s conduct of a special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the background of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
