Digital Desk, Athens. The Greek government has announced new measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus during the upcoming holiday season.
Health Minister Thanos Pleveris told a press briefing on Thursday that the government has decided to cancel all public celebrations amid the rise in cases of the new variant Omicron. Also, it will be mandatory to wear masks inside and outside the house and additional safety protocols will have to be followed for the passengers.
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, he has asked all travelers entering Greece to be tested for corona on the second and fourth days upon their arrival.
Greek national broadcaster ERT said these measures will be in effect until January 3 and are enough to celebrate Christmas and New Years without posing a risk to public health. Greek officials said on Wednesday that 5,641 cases of the new variant of the coronavirus were reported in 24 hours while 69 people died.
