Of the Rs 1,67,540 crore gross GST collected in April, CGST stood at Rs 33,159 crore, SGST at Rs 41,793 crore, IGST at Rs 871,939 crore and cess at Rs 10,649 crore. The government collected 20 per cent more GST revenue in April this year as compared to the same month last year. It picked up 30 per cent more revenue from imported goods this month and 17 per cent more collections from domestic transactions. This is the first time that gross GST collection has crossed the Rs 1.5 lakh crore mark.
The Finance Ministry said the increase in tax collections was due to various measures taken by the tax administration to ensure timely filing of returns by taxpayers, simplification of compliance, stricter measures against tax evaders and improved economic activity.
