Zoo Artis in Amsterdam has been hit by an attack with ransomware. Some computer systems do not work because of this. The people behind that attack are demanding 1 million euros in ransom, to be paid in virtual money.
It is not yet known who are behind the hack, according to Artis.
The zoo has filed a complaint with the police. Artis does not yet know whether the cyber criminals also managed to gain access to personal data and to e-mail traffic. As a precaution, the zoo has also reported to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
Artis is open despite the attack. Micropia and the Groote Museum were closed on Tuesday, but will be open again on Wednesday.
