Riyadh: The anti-corruption agency NASA has released the details of prominent people convicted of corruption in Saudi Arabia. The anti-corruption agency has taken action against prominent figures, including a former ambassador and senior ministry officials. The former ambassador was convicted of accepting large bribes from Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from foreign countries to facilitate the issuance of pilgrim visas. He was sentenced to six years in prison and fined three lakh riyals, according to the Saudi Overseas and Anti-Corruption Authority. But no further details about the former ambassador have been released.

The anti-corruption court also convicted a notary for accepting a large bribe without the real owner of the land and registering the land for two children. The notary’s father unknowingly transferred land illegally after accepting a bribe of 45 lakh riyals from a businessman and his sister. The notary’s brother, who was involved in the scam, was also arrested in the case.

The authority also said that a retired brigadier general had been convicted of accepting a bribe of one crore riyals from 15 Saudi nationals to pay compensation for illegally acquired land. He was serving in the Border Security Force, and 15 Saudis were arrested in connection with the illegal acquisition of land and compensation from the government.

Another man was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of 3.5 lakh riyals from a businessman instead of forging a license for a business. This engineer is a senior official in the Municipal Department. He forged a certificate showing that the amount due to the institution had been paid. The court also convicted another man of accepting a bribe of 12,500 riyals to avoid 16 violations imposed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development against the institution.
