What are the main trends and characteristics of the increase in political violence and the current conflict? The ‘Alert’ report from the Escola de Cultura de Pau of the UAB analyzes the state of the world in terms of conflict and peacebuilding, which makes it possible to offer a regional comparative view and identify global trends. According to the Alert 2023 report, during 2022 there were 33 armed conflicts, a higher figure than the previous year. Most of the armed conflicts were concentrated in Africa (16) and Asia (nine), followed by the Middle East (five), Europe (two) and America (one). 30% of them registered higher levels of violence compared to the previous year. The same thing happened in half of the 108 sociopolitical crisis situations, aggravated in some cases by the global repercussions of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
