The Brazilian national team conquered social media after thrashing Panama 4-0 this Monday (24) in the debut of the Women’s World Cup.
In addition to the show by Ary Borges and company, another character is going viral on social networks, the mascot Canarinha Guerreira, better known as Periquita Pistola or Canarinha Pistola.
Complete package.
Henna tattoo.
The actual version.
An authentic Brazilian.
The mascot was created by publicist Gabriel Morais.
“We realized that the women’s team doesn’t have a mascot. The men’s team has Canarinho Pistola, that alpha male, angry, arrogant. And he doesn’t translate the spirit of the women’s team. So we had the idea of launching Canarinha, as a way for the fans to honor our players”, he said, in an interview with UOL.
The mascot is not an official CBF. Gabriel launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for the maintenance of the mascot in Australia and New Zealand, hosts of the World Cup. There are rewards like postcards and stuffed animals from Canarinha.
The Canarinho Pistola was one of the great memes of the 2018 Men’s World Cup in Russia. Gabriel told UOL that he was careful not to be the female version of Canarinho Pistola.
But it is practically impossible for this association not to be made. The viral posts on the networks carry the term Canarinha Pistola or Periquita Pistola, and not Canarinha Guerreira, despite the efforts of some people.
