The government has decided to implement the health insurance scheme for the natives using the Shifa Fund to provide free ambulance services. Insurance companies will be responsible for implementing the insurance scheme for non-residents. Those with insurance will waive the annual fee of 72 dinars for treatment at health centers.
It is the responsibility of the employer to obtain insurance for the foreign worker and his family from an insurance company licensed in Bahrain. The increasing population and increasing expenditure on health services has prompted the government to move towards an insurance scheme.
