SrinagarDue to heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir, the Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily halted on Saturday. The yatra from both the base camps of North and South Kashmir has been halted for the time being. The yatra will be resumed only after the rains stop. Officials have given this information.
Officials said that due to heavy rains, the movement of pilgrims (Amarnath Yatra) from Baltal in North Kashmir and Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camps in South Kashmir has been temporarily stopped. From the Baltal base camp, pilgrims have to cover a 14-km long route on foot or ponies to reach the cave temple, while those going from the traditional Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp have to cover a distance of 48 km, which takes four days one way.
The Pahalgam-Cave Temple route includes Pahalgam to Chandanwari (24 km), Chandanwari to Sheshnag (13 km), Sheshnag to Panchtarni (5 km) and Panchtarni to Cave Temple (6 km). People traveling via the 14 km long Baltal Base Camp route (Amarnath Yatra) return to the base camp on the same day after ‘darshan’ inside the cave temple.

More than 20,000 pilgrims visited the Amarnath cave shrine on Friday, taking the number of devotees who have visited the naturally formed Shivling of ice so far to over 1.50 lakh, officials gave this information here. The Amarnath Yatra began on June 29 through two routes – the traditional 48-km-long Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the 14-km-long Baltal in Ganderbal.
