New Delhi. After winning the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team reached Amritsar on Sunday. The Indian players were given a grand welcome with drums at the Amritsar airport. Fans had gathered outside the airport since morning waiting for the Indian players.
On behalf of the Punjab government, Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Harbhajan Singh ETO also arrived to welcome the team. Amritsar’s hockey players captain Harmanpreet Singh, Gurjant Singh, Shamsher Singh and Germanjit Singh played in the Indian team. After being welcomed at the airport, the team bowed down to Sri Harimandir Sahib.
Giving his reaction on the prize money given to the players by the Punjab government, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that in the Congress government, the players used to get Rs 2.5 crore each, while the current Aam Aadmi Party government is giving only Rs 1 crore each, while the families of the players have also demanded an increase in the amount.
While meeting the players of the Indian hockey team at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami congratulated the hockey players. He said that I congratulate the players. The players performed well. It is a matter of pride that 10 players from one state (Punjab) played in the Paris Olympics and returned with medals. Almost all the players of the hockey team are from Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was also going to Paris but his visit was cancelled due to lack of approval.
