Bhubaneswar: The German team has won the title of champion in the current Hockey World Cup series. Germany won the final against Belgium in a penalty shootout.
The matches for the series were held at two hockey stadiums in the Indian state of Odisha, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. A total of 16 countries participated in the series. Germany and Belgium qualified for the finals. It is noteworthy that Belgium won the champion title last time.
The final was played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Belgium took the lead by scoring 2 goals in the 9th and 10th minute of the match. Germany scored three consecutive goals in the 28th, 40th and 47th minutes to take the lead. Belgium scored the third goal in the 58th minute to tie the game 3-3.
A penalty shootout was conducted to decide the match. Germany scored 5 goals. Belgium only scored 4 goals. With that, Germany won the game. Germany has won the Hockey World Cup for the third time.
