Lucknow. Bone-chilling cold has started in Uttar Pradesh. Due to cloudy weather during the day, the cold has increased further in the morning and evening. In view of the outbreak of cold, council schools run by the Basic Education Council, schools up to class 8 affiliated with CBSE and ICSE will remain closed from December 31 to January 14.
Recently, half yearly examinations have been successfully completed in council schools, the results of which were announced in all the schools on 30th December. Winter holidays have been declared for students of classes 1 to 8 in council schools and all board schools from Tuesday, December 31 to January 14.
Cold has spread across the state, due to which holidays have been declared in schools. Keeping in view the health of children, experts have advised to take measures to prevent cold. Doctors say that children and the elderly need special attention during the cold season. Also, caution should be taken while lighting heaters or fireplaces in closed rooms. Along with New Year celebrations, children will also have to focus on their studies as they have been given 15 days of homework.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is no possibility of relief from cold in the state for the next 48 hours. Melting has increased due to fresh snowfall in the hilly areas. The minimum temperature is likely to fall further in the next 24 hours. A new western disturbance will be active between January 2 and 3, whose impact will be seen in Uttar Pradesh.
