Doha: Expatriates unable to return home due to tightening of quarantine restrictions in Qatar. Hotel quarantine is mandatory for those coming from the Red Zone, including India, as hotel rooms are not available for booking. Hotel bookings are in high demand as seven-day hotel quarantine has been made mandatory for all visitors from non-green countries.

Hotel rooms not available for a month

The current proposal is to book quarantine hotels through the Discover Qatar website. Accordingly, hotel rooms will not be vacant until March 16. As of March 17, only one hotel room was available. There, the seven-day package costs around 4,500 riyals per person. In the days that followed, it cost about four thousand riyals. With the availability of adequate hotels, those who have been in the country for months are unable to return on time. Many people are unable to get to work during this time. For expatriates with their families, the cost is more than affordable. Especially for expatriates returning after months in the country.

Only 18 countries on the Green List

A total of 18 countries are on Qatar’s Kovid Green list. This is due to the fact that people from all other countries have to stay in hotels for seven days. Earlier, the hotel quarantine exemption was given to the elderly, young children, the sick and the disabled coming from the Red Zone. However, the exemption was withdrawn by the authorities last week as the Kovid expansion intensified. With this, there is a huge demand for hotel rooms. Expatriates say that if more hotels are added to the quarantine, hotel availability will increase and the package rate will drop drastically.
