The report was handed over by an expert committee headed by Planning Board member K Raviraman, with Food Secretary Ajith Kumar and Supplyco CMD Sriram Venkitaraman as members. The Minister informed that the implementation of the recommendations of the report will be decided after discussions with the Chief Minister.
Supplyco is still supplying 13 subsidized items at 2016 prices. The minister asked the expert committee to consider the issues of the increase in the price of goods in the last seven years and the current financial situation of Supplyco and give a report so that the public is not overburdened.
The minister informed that based on the government’s assessment that the gap between the current market price of subsidized goods and the price at Supplyco will adversely affect the operation of Supplyco, an expert committee has been formed and asked to submit a report. He added that the issue will be presented in the next cabinet meeting and a decision will be taken.
As the minister clarified that the report will be presented in the cabinet meeting and a decision will be taken, the new price information will come out soon.
