This feature is especially present in Pixel phone models. This is an in-build security feature. This feature is designed to provide early assistance in the event of a car crash. Your phone must have location, activation, microphone permission and a working SIM card to use this security feature. It relies on an accelerometer, location data and microphones to detect accidents or collisions.
If a collision or accident is detected your Pixel phone will automatically call the local emergency services like 112 number in India. It displays “I am OK” after making a call. If it turns out to be a false alarm, you have 60 seconds to cancel it. When you tap on ‘I’m OK’, it offers options like ‘No Crash’, ‘Minor Crash’ and ‘Call 112’. If you proceed with an emergency call you can select the type of assistance you need ie medical, fire or police.
When this feature is active, others can access your lock screen message and emergency details even if your phone is locked during an accident. Also false emergency calls are usually against the law in many countries. So if it’s a false alarm don’t forget to cancel them with correct option within 60 seconds.
This security feature is available on Pixel 4a, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro for users in India. It is available in all subsequent models including Pixel 4a and Pixel Fold in global markets.
