Stealing spaceships in Starfield is not easy, but it will be very useful if you need to improve your vehicle but do not have the necessary credits to buy one from a seller.
In this guide we will explain how to steal ships in starfield and how to add them to your collection to be able to use them whenever you want.
On this page you will find:
How to steal spaceships in Starfield
The first thing you need is to find a ship to steal. If you want your teammates not to be angry with you, and not to add especially large loot to your name, you will probably want to only steal enemy ships that are already attacking you. This includes ships from the Crimson Fleet or the Spacers.
Transport yourself to various planets until you find one where there are enemy ships attacking you. In order to tackle them, you’ll need to deal enough damage to them that their engines will shut down. When a ship’s engines are disabled, a red MOT icon will appear below its life bar.
Once you have deactivated the engines, the ship will stop moving. Now you can approach her. If her aiming systems are still active, try to do it from behind or from the sides to avoid taking damage. You will only be able to land on a ship if you are out of combat, so be sure to take out the rest of the enemy ships in the area before boarding the ship in question that you want to steal. To dock on a ship, approach it until the dock option appears by pressing the X button. You can then exit your own ship and board the opponent’s ship.
In this way, you will be able to access the interior of the enemy ship. Prepare your weapons and your first-aid kits.
To steal the ship in question you will have to kill all the people on board. This is why we recommend only trying to steal enemy ships: killing civilian or friendly ships will increase your reward for that faction and cause your companions to refuse to help you.
Once you have eliminated all the enemies, find the cockpit and sit in the captain’s position. Hold Y to detach it from your current ship, and you can now fly it.
It should be noted that you will not be able to pilot any ship that you come across. If the ship is classified as a Class B or Class C, you will have to increase points to the Piloting skill in your skill tree.
How to store stolen ships in Starfield
If you have followed the previous guide, you will now be piloting your new ship, but it still won’t be yours. To keep it permanently and add it to your collection you will need to register it first. To do this, use the map to fast travel to any location that has a spaceport, such as New Atlantis on Alpha Centauri or Cydonia on Sol.
There, get off the ship, and look for the nearest ship technician, who will be in the vicinity. Talk to him, and select the option “I want to see my ships”. There you will be offered the chance to register the ship in exchange for a few credits. From this moment on, the ship is yours and you can fly it whenever you want.
Oh, and don’t worry about the ship you abandoned in space. This ship will return to your inventory and will continue to be yours to activate whenever you want from any spaceport.
