Flying an airplane is one of the most recurring dreams of children, but also one of the greatest responsibilities for an adult. Whether it is a civil or military aircraft, the difficulty of operations and the maximum demand that it entails make the profession of pilot a vital adventure.
One of the keys, say people who have taken a plane, is to remain calm in risky situations. Among them was the danger of collision with another aircraft, an extreme situation for which they prepared thoroughly.
What is done in that situation is explained by the acquaintance tiktoker and aerospace engineer Sergio Hidalgo. He talks about a technology, called TCAS, for the acronym in English of Traffic and Collision Avoidance System; ‘Traffic alert and collision avoidance system’.
“One plane is seen approaching another and the TCAS is activated because there is danger, the altitude is not being respected,” he begins by pointing out the influencers air, which comments that this safety distance is about “1,000 feet, I think.”
In case the danger persists, “TCAS works, the two planes communicate and one of them sends a signal to the other, one goes down and the other up.”
Sharing an image of a panel from the plane, he shows how “TCAS is working, it sounds and the plane starts to lose altitude.”
“This system is incredible, really,” he concludes.
