Along with the fly overs, the sky walk will also be available to the people of the city this year. The skywalk being constructed in Mehdipatnam, which is a busy city, will be made available in May this year. This skywalk is being constructed with a length of 390 meters with 11 elevators. Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is constructing this skywalk at a cost of Rs.32.97 crores. Officials say that in the total length of 390 meters, 50 meters from Mehidipatnam Bus Stand to Defense Border, Intermediate Tunnel Walk from Mehidipatnam to Rythu Bazar and Asifnagar Police Station is 160 meters.
Officials say that there is a 180 meter long walkway from Mehidipatnam to Mallepally road. While the clearance height is 6.15 meters, it is being constructed with a width of four to five meters. Entry and exit points are being set up near Raymond Showroom near Rythu Bazar, Defense Compound Wall, Mehdipatnam Bus Bay Area, Asifnagar Police Station, Gudimalkarur. Space will be allocated for coffee shops, snacks and other shops in the skywalk. Also, LED strip lights will be installed.
Officials say the skywalk will provide greater safety for pedestrians. This skywalk is being constructed adjacent to PV Narasimha Rao Expressway. It is said that if this skywalk becomes available, the traffic problems will be reduced and it will be more convenient for the pedestrians. Steel decks are being fixed on the pillars. It will allow easy movement of pedestrians in all directions. Also, the construction work of skywalk at Uppal Junction has reached the final stage. While it is being remodeled at a cost of Rs. 25 crores, it seems that there is a possibility that this too will be available soon. The airport metro express to be constructed from Rayadurgam metro station to Shamshabad airport in the city will start this year itself. The survey work has already been almost completed.
