The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has called on car owners of brands Hyundai and Kia, due to a failure in the assembly of the trailer hitch that can cause a short circuit and lead to a fire.either.
Retirement involves more than 571,000 vehicles on the road in the United States and the companies have asked the owners of the models involved to park them in an open space to reduce the risk of fire.
According to the report, drivers are cautioned because cars can catch fire. while parked or moving.
The vehicles with these faults are:
– Hyundai Santa Cruzmodels 2022 and 2023
– Hyundai Santa Femodels from 2019 to 2023
– Hyundai Santa Fe Hybridmodels 2021 to 2023
– Hyundai Santa Fe plug-in hybridmodels 2022 and 2023
– Kia Carnivalmodels 2022 and 2023
All models noted have trailer hitch harnesses that were factory installed by dealers.
The NHTSA recommends that cars be parked in open spaces and away from other units or buildings because of the risk they represent, although he points out that they can continue using them.
Korean automakers mention that water can get onto a circuit board in the hitches and cause a short, even with the engine off.
Until now Hyundai has received reports of one fire and 5 heat damage incidents with no injuries reported. While Kia has no related reports of people affected by the malfunction.
The repair of the failure will be free of charge and affects 568,000 Hyundai units already about 3,500 of Kia.
