Mumbai: Former England player Kevin Pietersen is looking after the commentary duties of the current IPL season. Many people have been asking him, ‘You are the first and only Test wicket taken by Thane Dhoni’. He also got tired of explaining about it. In this context he has released video evidence in this regard. Through that, he has said ‘I am not his’.
It was Mahendra Singh Dhoni who raised this question. Dhoni, who was overseeing the commentary during the 2017 IPL season, jokingly said, ‘He was my first Test wicket’. At that time Pietersen noticed the commentary work and was talking to Pune player Manoj Tiwary through the microphone. That’s when it happened.
It has been six years since this happened and the question is being raised that ‘You are Dhoni’s first Test wicket’. Pietersen shared a video clip of the Lord’s match between England and India in 2011 on social media. Dhoni bowled on the first day of that match. Pietersen was on strike then. It looked like a ball had grazed Pietersen’s hood. ‘Out’ appealed Dhoni. The umpire also gave out. A TRS review confirmed that Pietersen was not out.
“The evidence is very clear. I am not Dhoni’s first Test wicket. Pietersen has captioned the video as ‘You bowled well MS’. “I am desperately looking for video evidence from the Lord’s match to explain all the claims that I was Dhoni’s first wicket. Certainly not his first Test wicket,” he said in an earlier tweet.
Bowler Dhoni: Dhoni, the wicketkeeper, has bowled 22 overs in international cricket. 6 overs in ODI cricket and 16 overs in Test cricket. He has taken only one wicket in this. It is the most in ODI cricket. West Indies player T.M. Only Dowlin.
The evidence is CLEAR! I was NOT Dhoni’s first Test wicket.
Nice ball though, MS!Thanks for sending this through, @SkyCricket pic.twitter.com/XFxJOZG4me
