Technology giant IBM announced its commitment to training 2 million students in Artificial Intelligence (AI) by the end of 2026focusing on underrepresented communities, with the aim of closing the global skills gap in this new discipline.
To achieve this goal on a global scale, IBM is expanding AI education collaborations with universities around the world, collaborating with partners to provide training to adult learners and launching new generative AI courses through IBM SkillsBuild.
IBM SkillsBuild is a Free educational program focused on underrepresented communities in technology, which helps adult learners, high school and college students and teachers develop valuable new skills and access career opportunities. The program includes an online platform that is complemented by personalized practical learning experiences delivered in collaboration with a global network of partners.
According to a recent global study conducted by the IBM Institute of Business Value, executives surveyed estimate that the implementation of AI and automation will require 40% of its workforce to retrain over the next three years, mostly those in entry-level positions. This further reinforces the fact that generative AI is creating demand for new roles and skills.

IBM SkillsBuild now offers free courses on AI fundamentals, chatbots, and crucial topics like AI ethics. The new generative AI roadmap includes courses and enhanced features.
