The controversy erupted when Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district president Buddha Srikanth Reddy objected to the mosque being built illegally.
The police who reached there on this order sent Buddha Srikanth Reddy back. During this sequence Srikanth Reddy’s vehicle was intercepted by another group. Two young men were injured when the vehicle sped off in an attempt to escape from them. From there, Srikanth Reddy went straight to Atmakuru police station.
On learning of this, another group besieged the police station and attacked Srikanth Reddy at once. Srikanth Reddy wrecked the vehicle. The police have been shot in the two rounds of the police to control the protestors. District officials deployed special police forces in response to the incident. This caused a great deal of tension in the town of Atmakuru.
