In light of the high-price crisis..Do Moroccan companies want to lay off some workers?

The trade union centrals are still afraid that Moroccan companies will lay off some workers or evade the second wage increase of 5 percent, according to the minutes of the agreement signed with the trade union centrals on April 30, 2022.

According to what was reported by Al-Jarida 24, the professional unions feared the approach of Moroccan companies to measures that would destroy the purchasing power of the working class, which was greatly affected by the high-rise crisis, after wages became insufficient to manage their daily livelihood.

While opposition representatives repeatedly called, in Parliament, for the necessity of creating a number of industrial investments and distributing them equitably among various parties, with the aim of advancing the national economy and reducing the severity of unemployment, while increasing wages, to confront the wave of high prices.

In this regard, Chakib Laalj, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, recently said that companies have never asked to lay off male and female workers.

In his speech during a meeting organized by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, Laalaj stressed that the goal of Moroccan enterprises currently is to enhance training and advance human capital, and not to expel male and female workers.

The head of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises added that the social dialogue is still ongoing with the unions, and why there is evasion on the issue of increasing the minimum wage.

The same spokesman highlighted that the increase will be implemented when the government decides, since it is the one who determines this matter, in light of the current economic situation.

The same speaker explained that Moroccan enterprises have become more concerned with the discussion about reviewing the labor code and bringing the strike law into existence.
