Providing the national market with marine fishing products at affordable prices during the month of Ramadan was the focus of a coordination meeting held today, Wednesday in Rabat, between the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mohamed Seddiqi, and sector professionals.
This meeting falls within the framework of the efforts made by the Ministry and its partners to ensure the availability of marine fishing products throughout the national territory during the month of Ramadan.
In particular, this concerns the creation of a central committee to ensure the regular supply of high-quality marine fishing products to the national market in sufficient quantities, in addition to mobilizing economic actors in the marine fishing sector to supply various cities with fresh and frozen fish when needed.
It is also related to ensuring daily monitoring of fresh fish prices along the value chain, especially at the wholesale and retail markets in various cities of the Kingdom, in addition to daily monitoring of the quantities of frozen fish that are marketed at the wholesale markets and various points of sale.
On this occasion, Mr. Siddiqi highlighted that the aim of this meeting is to discuss the main measures that must be implemented to ensure that all regions of the Kingdom are supplied with marine products during the holy month of Ramadan.
In this regard, he noted the involvement of sector professionals in order to make this operation a success, which falls within the framework of the second phase of the “Aliotis” strategy, which was launched in 2020, and focuses in particular on the distribution and marketing of marine fishing products.
The Minister also stressed the need to focus on distribution at the local level, while respecting health and quality standards, calling for adopting an integrated approach that enhances response to consumer needs.
For his part, the President of the University of Marine Fishing Chambers, Al-Arabi Mahidi, explained that this meeting focused on ways to ensure that the market is supplied with marine fishing products at prices accessible to citizens during the month of Ramadan.
He also highlighted that the “Whale at a Reasonable Price” initiative, the first version of which was launched by the marine fishing sector during the month of Ramadan 1440, corresponding to the year 2019, achieved great success at the national level and enabled citizens to purchase high-quality frozen fish at very reasonable prices.
This meeting, which took place in the presence of the heads of the fishing chambers, was an occasion to invite professionals to participate in the action plan aimed at ensuring the regular supply of marine fishing products to the national market during the holy month.
