In Russia, 33,899 cases of COVID-19 were registered over the past day. This was announced on Wednesday, January 19, by the operational headquarters for combating coronavirus infection.
Thus, the largest number of cases was detected in Moscow (8795), St. Petersburg (4382) and the Moscow region (2626).
698 patients died from the consequences of the disease per day, 22,920 people recovered.
In total, since the beginning of the spread of coronavirus in Russia, 10,899,411 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded. The number of deaths was 323,376, 9,925,855 people recovered.
The day before, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that 60% of COVID-19 cases in Russia are due to the Delta strain, 40% to Omicron and some other variants. She added that an increase in the incidence of COVID-19 is observed in 67 regions of the country.
At the same time, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, 1682 cases of the Omicron strain have already been detected in the Russian Federation, but there are much more of them.
In addition, Golikova indicated that the quarantine period for coronavirus has been reduced from 14 days to seven.
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, in turn, said that Omicron is rapidly spreading around the world. He said that the government will allocate an additional 15 billion rubles for the purchase of medicines for COVID-19.
A large-scale vaccination campaign continues in Russia. Citizens can get vaccinated for free. Six coronavirus drugs have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, KoviVac, EpiVacCorona-N, and the Sputnik M vaccine for adolescents.
