Over the seven months of 2022, the main accident rates decreased in Russia. On August 26, the traffic police of the Russian Federation announced this on its official website.
According to the agency, statistical data for the seven months of 2022 show a decrease in all major accident rates. The number of deaths in traffic accidents was reduced by 2.6%. In total, from January to July of this year, 7,146 people died in car accidents on Russian roads.
According to road inspectors, the reduction in the main accident rates in Russia became possible due to the implementation of the federal project “Road Safety” and the national project “Safe High-Quality Roads”.
The State traffic inspectorate noted that since the beginning of 2022, about 84 thousand people have received injuries on Russian roads. According to employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate, almost half of the total number of accidents (45.1%) occurred in vehicle collisions.
About a quarter of the incidents (25.4%) were collisions with pedestrians.
The traffic police reported that the vast majority (87.7%) of accidents occurred in Russia due to violations of the rules by car drivers. Among the main causes of car accidents, violations of the rules for crossing intersections are in the lead.
In 8.7% of cases, the causes of car accidents were driving into the oncoming lane, and 7.7% of accidents were due to violation of the rules for passing pedestrian crossings.
According to the results of seven months of 2022, the number of accidents involving drunk drivers and those who refused a medical examination decreased by 18.8%. In total there were about seven thousand such incidents. The number of deaths in them decreased by 31.8% and amounted to 1,378 people, and the number of wounded was 9.2 thousand people.
On August 2, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia announced that it intends to expand the functionality of the traffic police data mart. There should appear information about the driver’s license and diagnostic cards of cars of Russian citizens. Citizens can receive information from the register of vehicles in their personal account on the public services portal. The traffic police data showcase was launched on July 1, 2022.
