In Saudi Arabia, a fine of 5,000 riyals is imposed for wearing shorts in public

Riyadh: Wearing low-cut shorts in public is an illegal and punishable offense, officials say. Badr al-Sayyani, the former head of the Saudi Public Decor Society, made the remarks in a TV interview. Wearing shorts is also a crime in line with the 2019 law, which makes it a criminal offense to appear in public places wearing indecent clothing.

Al Sayyani, meanwhile, argues that wearing shorts while playing football, basketball, swimming or walking is unethical for appearing in public. He also urged the younger generation not to behave like they do on the beaches in public places.

Since 2019, the Public Decorum Code has been outlawing penalties, including fines and imprisonment, for misconduct in public places. According to this, those who appear in public places wearing clothes that are indecent or have bad marks, symbols or text are fined 5000 riyals.
