Since the new year, the maximum number of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has increased. The staff of the ministry has expanded by 27 thousand people and now exceeds 922 thousand people. The corresponding decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in December.
“To establish the maximum staffing of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation (without personnel for the protection and maintenance of buildings) <...> from January 1, 2023 in the amount of 922,061 units, including 770,599 employees of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation, 17,823 federal civil servants, 133,639 employees,” the document states.
It is noted that before the signing of this law, the maximum number of departments was 894.9 thousand people.
The document also states that the increase in the number of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is also planned during 2024 and 2025. In January 2025, the number of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will have to exceed 938 thousand people.
Earlier, in October 2022, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev said that the ministry expects to reach a staff of 52 thousand police officers in the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye regions by 2026.
